FUKUSHIMA FEED

Here we are GROWING INTO the meaning of what we have seen
 and heard in Tohoku...

With its many layers and tentacles that reach outward and pull inward;
indeed the situation in Japan represents a microcosmic example for all of us that live in this vast Cosmos.

The question of POWER--from every angle of meaning--affects us all. How can we Re-Shape and Re-Imagine the use of POWER in every way  --Personal, Public, Political, ... and Nuclear  !

How do we Evolve and Align with the fundamentally creative energy of such Evolution ?

How do we grow to accept a new paradigm of Human Consciousness?

When what is thought ( and lived AS ) an imperishable world
...suddenly perishes into a transitory one ...  What Happens ?

色即是空空即是色 ...
Is this enough anymore ?

It seems our work is to first INTERPRET all of this raw material
...and then somehow EMBODY and SHARE  it in a form that can gradually become USEFUL toward the RE-CODING  & CO-CREATION
of a better and more sustainable World.

But How ??

BUT STILL...

As OUTSIDERS bringing in outside energy and attention...

How do we continue to support the people in Tohoku ?
How to keep the "good" energy moving forward...
How to impress ? / influence ? /support ? the people to
create a Future THEY want...and not just Re-Create the past ?
How to offer creative alternatives ?
How to complement Local initiatives ?

Is it too soon to hear the Evolutionary Impulse ??

CONTINUING to TRY....
Word from Japan is that Temporary Housing areas NEED community.
People were suddenly uprooted from their homes and neighborhoods ...and now live beside each other.  It is not the nature of Japanese
people to easily communicate with those they do not know.
Is this an area where we could help generate a sense of Community ?

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR THOUGHTS ....

Upon return from Japan this time,  there is one thing that is clear.
We have to GROW INTO the meaning of what we have heard and seen.

Indeed what is Life.
What is the purpose of our lives on this planet...
and HOW can we (each?) best Fulfill it ?

There is a deeper Evolutionary Intention that has been stirred.

As with any disaster,  there is a first stage of ....recovery.
The Earthquake and subsequent Tsunami are uncontrollable
"NATURAL" disasters of NATURE.

But what REALLY to make of the ONGOING Dai-Ichi Discussion ??

We appreciate all of you who have dared to contemplate this issue.

Delivery process begins in Tokyo at the Second Harvest Food Bank.
More food is picked up at another warehouse around sunset.
The Truck leaves Tokyo at 11pm and begins the drive to Fukushima.  There is a pit stop at a rest area around 2am --before arrival at sunrise. From 7am there is a meeting point with the local crew before arriving to the first Shelter.

7 a.m Meeting point with the Local Crew.

This Project is particularly successful because of the LOCAL people who join in with the Project.  Without them it would not work.
Thank You Sousa Family.

After much time, thought, and consideration;
we decided to join the SAVE MINAMISOMA PROJECT.
This project delivers safe drinking water and food DIRECTLY
to the residents of Minamisoma City who are in continuing need
of assistance.  Deliveries are made every 2 weeks to those who have lost their homes and were forced to evacuate due to the Fukushima
radiation.  Multiple temporary housing shelters have now been built
all across the region.  Many have also lost their livelihood due to the
radiation contamination of farmlands and they receive very little
additional support for daily living expenses...

It is significant that approximately half of the Organization is made up of Foreign Volunteers.

FUKUSHIMA – The mayor of Minamisoma, Fukushima Prefecture, expressed his desire Monday to create an international forum in the city for firms and people from all over the world to contribute their expertise on how to tackle nuclear crises as well as alternative energy development.

“I want my city to become the (global) center of industries that will transcend nuclear power generation,” said Mayor Katsunobu Sakurai.

QUESTIONS REMAINED...

Who are we ?
Do we need to get involved more ?
What could we possibly do ?
Why ?
Outside ?  Inside ? ....or combination of Both ?
How dangerous is the Radiation and how long will it last ?

Who/What can "help" at this initial STAGE 1 effort ?
Media ?  Art ?  Policy ?  Environment ?  Science ?  Business ?

VISITING SHELTERS ...
Distributing the Jizos (directly) was coordinated by Mayor Sakurai.
But the question lingered.  Who were we anyway ?
And why did we come all this way with hand made goods ?
(BTW...our Individualized efforts  were deeply appreciated by some...and harshly lectured by others.  Also,  mistrust of the the Government was just beginning and association with the Mayor was not OK with some.)

VERY INTERESTING PERSON and MEETING.

JIZOS TRAVEL TO TOKYO
May 2, 2011

Despite popular opinion we decided to go ahead and make the trip to Japan....   Tokyo was first.  While people were still in some shock
( and had stocked up on water, toilet paper, and noodles supplies);
basically Life as usual had begun to return for most.

Engaging in active support of  an unknown community of unknown people ... is still a newer kind of thinking in Japan.  It was not until the devastating Kobe Earthquake that struck in 1995 that this kind of thinking emerged.

A common sentiment has been ... "Volunteering and nonprofit sector is a Western and Foreign idea"..."It does not work in Japan"; ... "The Government takes care of everything in Japan and people need not do such things .... "

Arrangements to go back to Japan were completely discouraged by ALL family members and then the Temple too...

News was sporadic and unreliable at best...
The city of MINAMISOMA broke thru with new information...

This use of Social Media and YOU TUBE marked a very FIRST for a
Japanese Government Official to turn to the OUTSIDE WORLD for help.  It received HALF A MILLION viewers from around the World .
The Mayor was subsequently flooded with offers of help and assistance.  (There was almost no reaction from inside Japan.)

This message marked the BEGINNING or our Journey to ENGAGE.
