On March 11, 2011 a large earthquake and tsunami hit the northeastern coast of Japan. A boat belonging to Takata High School in Iwate was washed away by the tsunami and drifted along the Pacific Ocean for two years. It was found on the shores of Crescent City, California in April 2013.
Students from Del Norte High School in Crescent City cleaned the boat and raised funds to return the boat to Takata High School. The boat was returned to Rikuzentakata in October 2013.
In February 2014 six students from Del Norte High School visited Rikuzentakata and spent time with Takata High School students. This is their story.
